Taylor TS #11

Tutee: Inhyeong
Date/Time: Tuesday, February 9th, 8:05-9:15pm
Location: FSU – Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Speaking – Fluency, Reading Comprehension
Feedback provided to tutee: This time Inhyeong brought homework from her reading class, so we went over this after a short discussion. She would read through a paragraph and, when confused about a word, I helped her figure out a working definition for it (either by comparing it to similar words or explaining it in context). After this, I had her read a short (~600 word) story and summarize/explain what occurred in the story.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Inhyeong is good at reading, and fairly capable at using context to figure something out when necessary, but she seems to get overwhelmed by new words, which causes her to lose the drive to actually read a full passage and understand it. I think she just needs more encouragement as well as passages/stories to read that are within her interests.
