Jenna- CP#3

Date/Time: 1/28/2016, 1:00-1:50 PM

Location: Student Lounge at the Hecht House

Topic discussed: The topic of this week was stereotypes and generalizations in which we discussed the difference between the two. We asked a question about our own culture to another student that was based off of stereotypes and we also asked another student about a stereotype in their culture.

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I talked to a student from Kuwait and I learned that they have an obesity problem just like we do. He said that 40% of their population has diabetes because people do not workout and they eat fast food. I also shared with him reasons for why we might have an obesity problem in the United States. From this workshop, I have learned to differentiate between generalizations and stereotypes and to avoid thinking in stereotypes. This will help me when I teach students from another culture to not believe the stereotypes I hear, and instead find out information about their culture by asking questions.
