Melissa W. TS#12: Ayah

Date/Time: 2.8.16 / 5:00 pm

Location: Starbucks on Tennessee
Topic/Skill: pros & cons of controversial issues, role play, listening comprehension questions
Feedback provided to tutee: Ayah is still pretty shy in conversation so I tried to engage her more than usual today. She comprehends a lot but struggles with expressing her ideas, so I would ask her a guiding question if she got stuck. During the role play (she was a hotel owner with specific problems she had to handle) she was clever and did very well. She had some clarifying questions, or would ask me to repeat things, but would understand the second or third time I explained it.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Ayah was honest and shared that the material I chose was boring, haha. I will keep that in mind for any other listening lessons we do.  Her pronunciation is a little shaky with some common words, but she has no issue stopping and correcting herself when she gets it wrong. I've aimed too low before in choice of vocabulary to review and today I aimed too high, learning the appropriate level for a student can be difficult!
