September Mayo CP #7 February 6th

I picked up Janire after taking 3 of my foster cats to the vet this morning.  All the cats had a fever over 102.3 with the worst one 104.7.  They have Calicivirus.  Two of the kittens in that litter dies within the last 10 days which is always heartbreaking...Anyways.  I have the kitties with me when I picked her up at her apartment.  We talked about her dog back in Spain and how she would have loved to have a kitty if she wasn't going to move back there.  We talked about dogs socializing with cats and I'm not sure if it was a Janire thing, or a European thing, but she mentioned being nervous about having a cat and dog in the same household.  I have heard that from many more Europeans than Americans.  Socializing a cat and a dog is easy if they are both young usually.  Some cats do not like dogs, and some dogs just don't like cats, but that's they way it is with everything and everybody I guess.

After we drove to my house to drop the kitties off, we went to Craig's Killer Coffee which turned out to be a great lesson in culture for both of us.  In Spain, you must ask for every cup of drink you order and you pay for all of them individually.  Here, in that cafe, you grab a mug and serve yourself from the 5 canisters of coffee already prepared,  They are all labeled- she chose Mocha from the coffee bar, but I ordered a Cubano. When she got to the bottom of hers, I asked her if she was going to get a refill and she seemed hesitant, so that's when she told me about paying individually in Spain.

Craig's Killer Coffee is located inside a thrift store and there is also an independent ice cream counter as well.  This led to a discussion about how different cafes are in Spain and how it would be economical to share the rent and utilities with another store.

Tips are something we do differently here.  Our minimum wage for tipped employees in Florida is 5.03/hour.  They expect tips at 15% or above.  Spanish servers are paid well enough that tips are not necessary or expected.

We shared photos of our family- I was stunned that her sister is a natural blond- and she was stunned that I have a 21 year old, 18 yr old, 16 yr old, plus my daughter and grand daughter.
