FAB 10:20- 12 roughly
Tonight Ko seemed very down. He opened up to me finally about relationships. He is older, but very shy and never has been married. He tried to talk to a girl from class through Facebook Messenger, but she hadn't written back yet, so he was sad. Some of his other friends had not been responding to him from a couple weeks too. I told him that it really is that time of the semester where people are having to buckle down (new phrase) to do midterms, and first papers, etc. He agreed and I think his spirits were lifted a little.
He needed a little help with Facebook etiquette and some IT help with social media as well. I showed him how to see if the other person had actually seen the message so that he wouldn't be disheartened if the person didn't respond right away. He had never seen that before and was happy to get that new info. AS far as Facebook etiquette goes, he has two pages. One has a bunch of photos and a profile pic, his FSU status etc. The other has no photos and no posts or anything. His classmates had been trying to "friend" him on the one with photos and asking him if he was angry at them or something. Ko had lost the password to the first page so he had been inactive. No one knew about the second page.So I told him about the societal norm that has developed in the last decade about"friending"and"unfriending"
This was a good segway to discus how cool English really is and how you can turn an ordinary noun into a verb. Friend+ friending, friended, unfriend, unfriending....etc. My brother is notoriously late to everything- even important stuff. I don't mean 15 minutes, I mean like 2 hours. Anyways, I talked about how my family- if anyone is late- we say to the person waiting "You got Wayned" It is a funny thing about english.
After that we discussed the characters on "Friends" and who he thought is attractive. He said he had been on a diet for about a week.
