Tutee:
Inhyeong
Date/Time:
Wednesday, January 27th, 3:00-4:00pm
Location:
CIES (Lounge)
Topic/Skill:
Speaking – Pronunciation, Grammar (Articles)
Feedback provided to tutee: Inhyeong came with a concern she had regarding the
minimal pair “work/walk”, so I assisted her in being able to better enunciate
these words as well as the similar “mall/more” pair. She could hear the
difference, but had difficulty in speaking them clearly herself. After straight
repetition and advice about the shape of one’s mouth when voicing the different
sounds, Inhyeong’s ability to differentiate the words did improve. We also
talked about proper article usage and tips (including examples) on when to use
or not use the different articles, having Inhyeong form example sentences as
well.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you
learned: It’s certainly most
difficult when a student knows the grammar rules very well, but struggles with
putting them into practice. However, Inhyeong is fairly good about catching her
mistakes, or at least fixing sentences that I highlight as confusing/incorrect.
