Melissa W. CP#3

Date/Time/Location: Thursday January 28th 1pm @ CIES student lounge
Topic: Stereotypes and Generalizations
Lessons: A kind man from Kuwait asked me why Americans don't care about politics and I had to admit I myself know far less about the process/system than I probably should. This same man, when prompted by my question; "How is marrying an American viewed in your family?" responded with, "it would not happen, my family would not accept it, I was told to keep focus". A woman I spoke to from Colombia shared with me that she feels Americans are less connected to their families than other cultures and I didn't disagree (but this supports my own experience, not all experiences). This same woman asked me why Americans do not dress up for daily life and I told her I honestly can't answer that. I think there are some people who take dressing well very seriously, others who cannot afford it, and others still who have a more casual approach to what they wear.
