Tutee:
Inhyeong
Date/Time:
Tuesday, February 2nd, 7:20-8:20pm
Location:
FSU – Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Speaking
– Recap, Casual Speech
Feedback provided to tutee: We first did a recap of the pronunciation covered
before, as well as the sentence Inhyeong had come up with, of which she presented
an even better iteration. I then explained various terms and speech patterns
she might come across in casual speech that would otherwise confuse her
(focusing on being able to recognize and understand them, not necessarily using
it herself). This led to some additional vocabulary that I introduced to her. We
ended with Inhyeong forming basic sentences on the spot, with a focus on
correct article use.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you
learned: With a student who is
so good at English, I sometimes forget that Inhyeong doesn’t actually know all
of the vocabulary that a native speaker generally would, so it’s a good thing
that she usually stops me if I say something she doesn’t understand. I also
need to become better at actually explaining said vocabulary, as being able to
correctly use a word is not the same as being able to define it.
