Taylor TS #8

Tutee: Andy
Date/Time: Thursday, February 4th, 6:35-7:20pm
Location: FSU – Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Listening (Comprehension) & Reading
Feedback provided to tutee: This time Andy had some books he really liked with him, but because they were too difficult for him to read I decided to use the opportunity for some basic listening comprehension (reading the book to him and asking questions). Once we finished one of his books, I had him practice his own reading with a book he claimed to have read in class. This was much of the same, with reading, sound out unfamiliar words, and basic comprehension questions.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Even when the book was one of his favorites and I was the one reading, Andy still had a hard time paying enough attention to be able to answer simple questions. I really think he simply doesn’t enjoy either reading or answering questions. I want to find a way for him to practice these skills so that it’s more enjoyable, but I know this won’t always be a realistic goal for every student.
