Topic/Skill: Needs Assessment and Diagnostics
Feedback provided to tutee: I conversed with Ajeel a lot during the session about his goals, what he likes, and his background. Other than basic grammar critiques in his speaking, I did not get a chance to provide much feedback to him today.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that Ajeel is at the foundations level, so he has very low grammar and vocabulary knowledge. His first language is Arabic so it was at times helpful to him that I could clear up some confusion by speaking in Arabic. I tried not to speak in Arabic too much though, so that he can be exposed to as much English as possible. Like Fadia, he is very eager to learn English, which makes my job as a tutor much easier. He wants to work on speaking, writing, and grammar. He feels that his best skill is listening.
