March 5th Jeongmin Ko
Far East Restaurant 6:00-7:30 pm
This was our last tutoring session so we decided to have a special meal together. We met at Far East restaurant by Trader Joe's. We talked about the differences between Thai, Vietnamese, and Korean cuisine before starting our lesson.
I had decided to tutor Jeongmin on vocabulary pertaining to mathematical and statistical problems. I had tutored Mohammed on some of these words, but I was able to expound on this with Jeongmin.

Alpha
Known as SIZE or TYPE-1 ERROR. Type 1 Error: isn't fine but found out was Fine, error that doesn't cost lives
Bias*
If the design of a statistical study symmetrically favors certain outcomes
Coefficient of Determination
Assess how well a model explains and predicts future outcomes
Control Group*
A group that does not receive the treatment
Mean
the average of a set of data (sum of values divided by # of values)
Median
The middle score of a distribution
Normal Distribution
The normal (or Gaussian) distribution is a family of bell-shaped, symmetric density curve
Observed value
Values that are given; what is seen.
ScatterPlot*
Graph of the two quantitative variables measured on the same individuals. summary of a set of data that shows the realtionship between two variables.
Skewed *
A distribution is not symmetric; they are not mirror images of each other
Skewed to the Left
A distribution is one in which the tail is on the left sidekewed to the RightA distribution is one in which the tail is on the right side
Standard Deviation*
Measures the spread by looking at how far the observations are from the mean; also the square root of the variance. s is zero when there is no spread and gets larger as the spread increases; square-root of the variances squared

After delving into this list, I realized that I had chosen too many words to discuss. But we carried on and got through it. Jeongmin is studying Economics, so this was interesting and helpful to him.
We had a very nice evening and I offered to pay to thank him for allowing me to tutor him, but he refused and paid his half. He invited me to coffee at Starbucks afterward.
