Taylor TS #3

Tutee: Andy
Date/Time: Friday, January 15th, 3:30-4:30pm
Location: Leon County Public Library (Children's Section)
Topic/Skill: Reading, some Math
Feedback provided to tutee: Even with math, I did have Andy communicate the answer and his process to me verbally, so there was still English practice there. He then read a book, again sounding out words he didn't recognize, as I made sure he didn't impatiently (and accidentally) skip pages. Once he had finished the book, I asked him questions about the story to check his comprehension, guiding him when he couldn't quite remember one of the last details.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: It is imperative when tutoring a student so young that he/she is interested in what is being taught, whether that be the academic subject or the story of the selected book. Andy is definitely very picky, so I still need to work on ensuring his motivation (such as having him read a book I choose before letting him pick out a book).
