TS #2: Pronunciation Class
Date/Time: Friday, January 8, 2016, 11:00-12:00
Date/Time: Friday, January 8, 2016, 11:00-12:00
Location: Lyon
County Library
Topic/Skills: Pronouncing
“h” and “y”; developing vocabulary –
words with “h” and “y”
Feedback provided to tutee: Students
worked very eagerly on these sounds.
They already have the phonemes in their first language, so there was no
physical difficulty with the sounds themselves.
It was the different combination of letters that posed challenges –
fishhook, hour, ought, lawyer, etc.
Students repeated words to each other and me, and I followed with a
corrected sound until they could say the work correctly.
Lessons learned: It’s
important to find a balance between “doing what the lesson plan says” and
taking advantage of other learning opportunities. Discussion of the pronunciation of “ought”
turned into the difference between it and “must” and “should.” I said I’d do a bit of study of these modal
verbs and talk about them in the next session.
