Julia TS #3- Hye-in

Date/Time: 1/16/16 3 pm
Location: Leon County Library
Topic/Skill: Reading comprehension, spelling
Feedback provided to tutee: We continued to read the chapter book together that we had been reading. Before we began reading, I quizzed her on her memory of the characters, plot, and setting of the story. As she continued reading the story out loud I would help her with her pronunciation. If Hye-in didn't know the meaning of a word I have her guess the meaning in context of the story. After reading, we worked on the words for her spelling test for the following week, which her words with the "long o" sound.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I have learned that it is important to be able to get to know your tutee (especially child tutee) to be able to design activities that will appeal to them. Often, they do not have the same intrinsic motivation that adults have when trying to learn. In order to keep children motivated it is important to keep learning fun for them.
