Date/Time: 1/23/16 2 pm
Location: Leon County Library
Topic/Skill: Spelling, phonics, two-digit multiplication
Feedback provided to tutee: We worked on sounding out long words and I taught Hye-in the word "supercalifragilisticexpealidocious". We reviewed prefixes, suffixes, and parts of speech. Hye-in was already pretty knowledgeable about these grammar concepts. She wanted to work on learning how to multiply two-digit numbers so I explained the process of doing it and then we did practice problems together. By the end of the session she could do the problems by herself.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Hye-in was excited to learn about different aspects of American culture that she hadn't learned being originally from Korea. I showed her the Mary Poppins song, "Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious" and she loved it. It is a good idea to work in aspects of American culture when teaching foreign students. This idea also applies to tutoring as well because it makes lessons more exciting.
