Melissa W. TS#3 Nayun

Date/Time: Monday Jan 18th, 3:30 pm
Location: Books A Million, Thomasville Rd
Topic/Skill: Introduction & general english subjects, Ayun and I together picked out books she found interesting/I thought would be helpful. We slowly moved through them reviewing simple topics and kindergarten aged objects of focus (fruit, picnics, the house, a princess in her castle, a barn, etc.). Ayun is very advanced in her English, she speaks very well and has little no no accent that I can discern. Ayun, being only 6, was less ready to talk to me so I did a lot of the talking and tried not to overwhelm her with too many requests/questions. She understood the books with ease and particularly enjoyed anything very colorful and silly (she loved the fruit that had faces which you could also smell on the page).
Feedback provided to tutee: I was able to assess that she is up-to-speed with other kindergarteners and that she loves word games/mazes/crossword puzzles. Ayun is also not afraid to tell me what she wants to do even if she wants to spend little time talking.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: ^^ I was intimidated to tutor a child since I have never done this before (honestly with the adult tutees as well) but I realize being available to them, speaking only in English, and letting them choose a focus as much as I am preparing the material/making sure we stay on topic is not terribly difficult and it can be very fun. I am excited to continue learning how to better tutor them all!
