Date/Time: 01/16/16, 2-3pm

Location:
Strozier Library

Topic/Skill:
Introduction/Assessment, Present/Past/Future Perfect, Essay Writing

Feedback provided to tutee:
When learning complicated grammatical tenses, it may be easier to draw a diagram to visualize the time frames. Also, it is best to take an example that they can easily relate to and formulate it in each tense. They can then compare various meanings across tenses. We discussed some basic writing tips as well, although my tutee did a wonderful job at using vivid imagery.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
When a tutee is not certain at first what their weak and strong points are, it does not mean that they cannot be easily found. By prodding into my tutee's assignments, I quickly found where her points of confusion are. It seems that she learns much better in methods that I also prefer- creating diagrams and images to understand grammar. Also, it is only by understanding present perfect's relation to past and future perfect that she could understand the base concept. I also learn holistically- without understanding how it all functions together, I cannot understand an individual concept.
