Topic/Skill: Reading activity (comprehension and vocabulary), division
Feedback provided to tutee: Hye-in has been struggling with basic division so we started with a division activity. Afterwards, I introduced a reading passage that was harder than her last passage to practice intensive reading. While reading the article for the first time, we highlighted the words that she didn't know. After she was done reading the passage, we went back and I had her guess the meaning of the words from context clues.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Hye-in enjoys multiplication very much, however division seems to frustrate her. She does not like practicing division so I had to find a fun activity for her to be able to want to practice it. I made a mistake when choosing the reading passage because, while I thought it was an appropriate intensive reading level for her, I soon realized that there were too many law and political technical terms present in the passage. These words just confused her and she became distraught. Next time, I should focus on a passage that is more geared toward her age level.
