Date/Time: 1/12/16 @ 11:00-11:50AM
Topic/Skill: Reading
Group 3A
Teacher
Presentation: The teacher started
the class by writing the word contagious on the board and asking the class how
to pronounce it. He then has the whole class say the word together, he tells
them the part of speech, and asks them what it means. He then wrote the
definition on the board and wrote a sample sentence. He selected a few words
from a passage and randomly called on students to tell the class what the word
means. There was also another teacher who came into the classroom to make an
announcement and the teacher took a word she said (recruit) and taught it to
the class. The students were given a quiz for the rest of the class.
Classroom
Management: The teacher was very outgoing
and encouraging to his students. He asked them questions equally, gave them all
a chance to participate, prompted class discussion, and reviewed with them. The
students were very polite and wanted to participate. It was very clear that the
teacher not only had respect from his students, but they really enjoyed being
in his class. They listened to him and were polite and eager to learn.
Materials: Projector, white boards, computer, handouts.
Student
Participation: Students were called on randomly, but no one was disappointed when they
were called on. The teacher also had students ask the class if they needed a
question answered.
Feedback
Provided: When the students were being asked what
certain words meant, he was helping by giving context clues and explaining how
they can help them figure out what they mean. He also encouraged students by
saying “good job” and was still positive if they didn’t know what something
meant. He also asked the rest of the class to explain something if someone got
something wrong.
Lesson(s)
on teaching you learned: What I
learned from observing this lesson is to make sure to include the whole class
and to have a positive and encouraging attitude. I also learned to take words
that other people may say and use it as a chance to teach something new. Always
looking for an opportunity to teach, even if it is not something that was
planned in the lesson originally, is another important thing that I will want
to use in teaching.
