Melissa W. TS#1 Ayah

 Date/Time: Friday Jan. 15th 1pm
 Location: CIES building room 304
Topic/Skill: This was our introduction session, I first told Ayah who I was and what I was doing with TEFL/my goals for English teaching. I then asked her many of the questions we were prompted to give, by listening to her answers I had a better grasp on what should focus on in the upcoming sessions. I also provided her with a short essay about MLK and a few following questions to asses her reading ability/comprehension/vocab. Ayah is slightly shy (which is understandable) but very bright and eager, she understood most of what I had requested of her, sometimes asking me to repeat a question differently perhaps because of the phrasing.
Feedback provided to tutee: I had little feedback for Ayah this session since I am learning about her skill level, but Ayah did request that in the next meeting we jump into writing college texts so I will come prepared to prompt her with more formal writing.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I am reminded of how brave these students are to be away from home, in Ayah's case alone (but of course with other CIES friends), and immersed in a new environment/culture/language/social expectations.
