TS #3:
Date/ time: January 21, 2016 7:00pm
Location: Astin’s home
Topic Skills: He had a reading test the next day so we read
the book
Feedback provided to tutee: Astin has an extensive English
vocabulary and a good attitude about working, but struggles when reading words
or sounding them out. By doing more sight words and age appropriate books, he
will quickly feel more comfortable when reading.
Lesson(s) about tutoring/ tutee: he can read (i.e. he knows the letters in a word and he’s able to sound
them out but as he sounds them out, he doesn’t hear the word he’s saying), but
he tells me he can’t. As he reads I’m unable to determine if it’s because he’s
memorizing the material or genuinely reading it. I think I should use more
scaffolding techniques when reading with him.
