Jenna- TS#5

Date/Time: 1/20/2016, 8:30-9:30 AM
Location: Skype
Topic/Skill: Listening and Speaking
Feedback provided to tutee: The tutee mostly wants to improve his speaking and listening fluency, so we spent half of the lesson having a conversation about common topics in which I would correct any grammar errors he made. The second half was supposed to be spent watching a short two minute video and then I prepared questions to ask him, however the tutee was only able to watch the second half of the video due to internet problems. I ended up having him explain the second half of the video to me and I asked him some questions related to the content. I think he has a wide range of vocabulary, but he speaks slowly and deliberately instead of spontaneously. The next time we tutor I might try and use the same concept of speed writing and apply it to talking instead.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that just by having someone speak English for an hour a couple times a week can improve their skills, especially if you make the conversation interesting so the tutee is motivated to speak.
