Julia TS #4- Hye-in

Date/Time: 1/17/16 4:30 pm
Location: Leon County Library
Topic/Skill: Multiplication, spelling
Feedback provided to tutee: Hye-in is very enthusiastic about learning multiplication. We played "multiplication war" which is basically the regular card game war except the winner of each round had to multiply the value of the cards together. If I ever won, I had her do the problem too in order to "make sure I was right". Some of the problems were two digits times two digits and she had not learned how to do this yet. I helped walk her through how to do it and she was very excited when she finally understood how to do these kinds of problems on her own. After this, we played a memory matching game with multiplication. At the end of the session we played "spelling hangman" where I had her guess the words (which were from her spelling list for this week).
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that it makes tutoring so much more effortless when the child actually knows and trusts you. After this session I feel as though she finally feels comfortable enough with me will go along with most of the activities that I ask her to do.
