Melissa W. TS#6 Arturo

Date/Time: Fri. Jan 22nd 1:00pm
Location: CIES classroom 304
Topic/Skill: minimal pairs, pronunciation practice, essay review
Feedback for tutee: in the last session Arturo asked me to help him with his pronunciation of R and T. I came with some minimal pair sheets and had him repeat words with me and on his own. We also reviewed an essay he wrote at the end of the last session in terms of grammar and context.
Lessons learned: Arturo is very excited by English and happy to use it, he is easy to speak with and understands well my normal speaking style/speed. Arturo is less established with writing, but is aware and wants to write better academically. I went over some TOEFL question prompts and we reviewed a short response he wrote the week before, we talked about the flow of it- information that was missing, how to organize an academic essay, and grammar mistakes. We then went over some words that he may see on the TOEFL exam/checked the definitions/synonyms/example sentences of the ones he was unfamiliar with.
