Date/Time: 1/14/16 @ 9:00-9:50AM

Topic/Skill: Grammar Group 2A

Teacher Presentation: The teacher first wrote the agenda on the board so the class knew what they would be doing that day. The first thing they did was take a quiz. It had 14 questions, and they had 20 minutes to complete it. The teacher was walking around the class while they were taking their quiz. When they are all done with their quizzes, the teacher starts reviewing by asking them what stative verbs and dynamic verbs are and gives them examples of each. At the end of the class, they played a connect-four game with verbs.

Classroom Management: The teacher had very good classroom management. She was having fun with the class, but it was very clear that they had a lot of respect for her. When she was talking no one else was, and they wanted to answer her questions. During the connect-four game, the students were able to get up, move around, and talk to each other. They knew when to sit and do their work and when they could have fun and move around the room.

Materials: Projector, white boards, quiz.

Student Participation: The connect-four game was so much fun for the students. There were several rows and columns of verbs on the projector, with a line under each of them. The students were split into two teams and they had to write the past-tense of the verb on the line. They also had to get four in a row up and down, side to side, or diagonally. The students were running up to the board to try and beat the other team, and their teammates were cheering them on and trying to help. They were getting so into it and it was so much fun to watch. Since this was a fun game, everyone was eager to participate.

Feedback Provided: The teacher was encouraging all of them during the game, and giving them positive feedback when they were going over verbs. She asked the class for examples, and helped them understand if they were confused. She also went over the quiz they took so they could get the feedback while the information was still fresh in their minds. She explained everything and answered any questions the students had.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: The biggest thing I learned from observing this lesson was to incorporate games and fun activities into some classes. When someone is able to teach a lesson with a game, they will have better feedback because the students enjoy it and want to participate. Having fun classes also keeps students’ spirits up and stress levels lower. It’s a nice break for students to have sometimes and can help keep them motivated.
