Melissa N. White CO #1: Grammar

Date: Monday January 11th, 9:00-9:50 am
Teacher: Andrew Wilson
Topic/Skill: Professor Wilson touched on multiple grammar topics including; the different tenses, some regular and irregular verbs,  and how to correctly use the past tense of certain problem words.

Classroom Management: Professor Wilson had great command of the classroom, he spoke loudly and clearly and used his time appropriately. He seemed to cover all topics he had planned to cover, and was successful in keeping the students on task. I think it helps that the students are all adults who seem to be in class willingly and with genuine interest.
Materials used: Computer, class textbook, white board, online timer for in-class activity, small sheets of paper for the game of charades.
Student Participation: Students were lively and very active for 9am, they answered promptly when called upon and though some struggled a bit they all made an effort to participate and do well. The game of charades went well for the students and helped make the class more comfortable for them.
Feedback provided: Students would be given feedback on improper pronunciation or sentence formation, they were also provided with positive reinforcement and support. Students who were not in the previous class (since it is still the first weeks) were given an opportunity to complete the homework assignment from the previous class in order to have it reviewed before class let out.
Lessons I learned: I am not naturally a loud speaker, but I do feel Professor Wilson set an example for me with his ability to project his voice clearly for the whole class to hear. I witnessed Professor Wilson challenge individual students (when they were given a small amount of time to complete an in-class assignment) by encouraging them to go beyond the task assigned and write until they couldn't any more. Professor Wilson would ask a question and only provide the answer if none of his students could answer it themselves, he was also at times joking with them in a way that made the classroom more enjoyable.
