Date/Time: 1/12/16, 1:00- 1:50
Topic/Skill: Simple Present Tense
Teacher Presentation: The teacher began the class by going over the current date and weather, which the students were to know each day. Any vocabulary that wasn't familiar was written on the board in several sentences. The teacher then instructor asked each member of the class about everyday activities that they perform. The class concluded with the forming of small groups to ask and answer questions about everyday activities in the simple present. The instructor roamed the classroom during the small group period to correct any mistakes being made.
Classroom Management: All students were required to turn their phones completely off before class started. When the class started to lose focus the teacher was quick to reattain their attention and remind the students they must be quiet while she is talking.
Materials: Instructor used a textbook and whiteboard.
Student Participation: Students participated in class discussion by answering questions and in small groups.
Feedback Provided: The teacher corrected mistakes made by students when answering questions and then listened in on group discussions to correct common mistakes.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: When students asked questions that had explanations that put the class in danger of going too far off topic, the teacher was good at knowing when to move on instead of trying to explain. This is an important lesson as getting too off topic can create the risk of the class falling behind.
