Jenna- TS#4

Date/Time: 1/15/2016, 3:30-4:30 PM
Location: Starbucks location on Tennessee Street
Topic/Skill: Reading Comprehension
Feedback provided to tutee: The tutee, Juliana, could speak fairly well but she said she had problems reading lengthy articles and then orally explaining what the article said. I found some news articles for us to read together and we stopped after every paragraph so she could explain the content. Then when we finished the entire article, I had her explain the article as a whole. We did this with two different articles, since it took awhile to get through each one.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that I really enjoyed talking to her and that we had more in common than I previously thought. In terms of tutoring, I learned that the best way for someone to be motivated to learn is to do it in an interesting way. For example, I found interesting articles to read so Juliana would be excited to read and comprehend the content.
