Date/Time: 1/12/16
Topic/Skill: Reading/Paraphrasing
Teacher Presentation: First, the teacher had the students break up into small groups and discuss the articles that they read for their reading logs. While this was going on the teacher was walking around and observing the students. After this, the teacher went over the answers to questions about an article about Kind Bars that they had read as a class. He asked students what answers they wrote and why before telling them what he wrote. The focus of the lesson was on paraphrasing the article so he gave many examples of this. Finally, the teacher closed with a video in English about food from all around the world.
Classroom Management: The teacher was very respectful of the students' opinions. He also made sure the whole class was engaged by calling on people at random.
Materials: Projector, computer, access to the internet
Student Participation: The students participated through answering questions about the article out loud and through class discussion about Kind Bars.
Feedback Provided: The teacher provided feedback through re-reading sections of the article in order to justify why the answer was what it was.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: It is important to have topics that are relevant and intellectually stimulating, especially when learning another language. If I was assigned something that I was interested in in the language that I am learning, I would work extra hard to understand it.
