Julia TS #2- Hye-in

Date/Time: 1/10/16 4:30 pm
Location: Leon County Library
Topic/Skill: Reading comprehension, writing
Feedback provided to tutee: I had Hye-in write a paragraph about her friends and then looked over it to correct the grammar. Her grammar was very good and she made almost no mistakes. After that, she read a chapter book aloud while I listened. I would stop her every couple of pages and ask her what had just happened and specific questions about characters to see if she was comprehending what she was reading. Every once in awhile I had her guess the meaning of words she didn't know by the context of the sentence,
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: It's much more beneficial to the student if they have to figure out the answer on their own with guidance rather than me just telling her the answer. Also, we took a five minute break to play the card game, war. This break was good for Hye-in because she was much more focused once we returned to our tutoring activities.
