Topic/Skill: Listening
Teacher Presentation: The teacher began the class with presenting a "word of the day" to the class. Then, simple past sentences were read aloud to the class and students wrote down what they heard. This was then collected, graded, and handed back out at the end of class.
Classroom Management: The students were expected to have their phones turned off and only talk when called on by the teacher.
Materials: The instructor only used a textbook and a handout for the students to record what the heard during the listening exercises.
Student Participation: The students discussed common slang words in their home country and then, after the listening exercises, wrote their answers on the board.
Feedback Provided: Handouts for the listening exercise were graded and then returned to students at the end of the lesson.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: The students seemed to enjoy the instant feedback that the graded handouts gave them. While this would not be possible every class period, it would be nice to do every once in a while.
