The class started it’s fifth session with correcting homework from the last class. As I went around correcting student errors, I picked sentences that contained common mistakes and needed correcting. As a class, the students corrected each sentence. By the end of correcting the homework, the students began learning and getting the hang of how to auto-correct themselves. To introduce new vocabulary that students would be using in that day’s lesson, I asked the students to define the words as a class. Since many of the words were familiar to them, this was a good way to reinforce what they already knew. After reviewing vocabulary, we moved onto the activity. For this class, the students were asked to describe different events happening in a cartoon drawing of a mall using the present continuous tense. I first modeled the exercise, and then the students broke up into pairs. I was particularly pleased with how well they did this activity. Though many times, students failed to produce the present continuous perfectly every time, they seemed to enjoy the activity because there were so many things they could say about the picture.
