Hawk TS #1 Adult

To begin our first session, I gave the adult tutees a quiz testing them on their knowledge on how to use the verb “to be” in the present. After they finished, we quickly graded the quizzes together. For the most part, the students had a good handle on the verb. We continued onto the lesson’s grammar point, spatial prepositions. After explaining what a preposition is and how to use it, I took the class through each individual preposition and provided examples. After, I gave the class a drawing of a standard American kitchen which they used to talk about the location of the various objects found in the picture. The students initially broke into pairs. When they did this exercise. I focused on correcting pronunciation mistakes. For the second half of the activity, the class came back together to continue to talk about items in the picture using prepositions. This time, I was able to force them to use prepositions they did not feel as comfortable using. After a few tries though, many of the students were gaining control over new prepositions.
