Michael TS #8

Tutee: Maria
Date/Time: 2/25 @ 10:00
Location: Lounge
Topic/Skill: noun phrases
Feedback provided to tutee: The myriad uses of the noun phrase, constant pronunciation correction, but only when mispronunciation would lead to difficulty in communication/complete miscomunication ("how many times a day do you floss/flush?" when talking to a dental patient). I tried to stress as well that it is not important to sound like a native English speaker, 1) because it is more important to be able to convey your ideas, albeit with accurate pronunciation, and 2) because her accent will excuse her from many other small grammar errors when speaking with natives.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Similar to my TS #7, for this lesson I actually had to do some research and re-learning of English. Although it takes some extra time to do this, I feel that it definitely will be helpful to brush up on my knowledge of English in my spare time, so that I feel more competent when actually teaching.
