Hawk TS #6 Adult

I prepared a listening exercise from Randal’s ESL to start off our sixth class. The students listened to the recording once. Next we went over the vocabulary on the board. I let the students listen another 3 times to give them time to answer all the questions on the board. For many of the students, this was the first time they were asked to perform a listening activity that didn’t have a visual aid. It was funny to see how much more they had to rely on their listening skills when they didn’t have pictures to help. They did a great job. Nearly everyone understood the recording and got the correct answers. Next, we did a reading activity. The students learned about a small boy Joey and his family. To check for comprehension, I made an information chart for the students to fill out. I learned this technique from observing a class at CIES. I was very pleased with using it myself. They students also told me how much they liked the activity. A few told me that they chart assured them that they were really understanding the reading.
