We met from 4-5:30 outside of Strozier Library on the picnic tables. The days was like a beautiful fall day with a crazy wind blowing!
This was the first meeting between the two of us, but I had seen her in one of the classes which I observed. When we started talking, it was like ling lost sisters. She is in her late 20s-early 30s I think, already having her doctorate in Brazil. She had a focus on natural medicine. Not like we know of natural medicine, but more like the interplay between modern and historic herbal medication. I was very fascinated hearing her talk and was so shocked that she was only in intermediate. So far, my partners have been from Brazil, Spain, Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Professor Kim told us a little bit about how different countries approach the language learning process. I was able to witness these differences by meeting with people from different parts of the globe. What a blessing that was to have some one from 4 distinct parts of the globe.
Juliana told me about the problems in Brazil. The economy and the crime. She told me once about when she was driving down the highway and some one came up beside her on a motorcycle and began to shoot out her window. I couldn't believe it, she didn't get shot. I asked her if she went to therapy, and she said these things happen all the time. You just have to forget about it and move on. This is so different that here in the US. Some one would be labeled with PTSD and given medication.
I found her to be an amazing woman and so very brave.
