Hawk TS #8 PJ

For my final session with PJ, we started with finishing up a school assignment. I made sure that he carefully read the questions and that he understood what they were asking for. After completing his homework, PJ and I watched a video that explains what topics, main ideas, and supporting details are. The video gave a couple examples and we discussed them together. After the video, we read an article about the different tribes of Native Americans and how they lived. We began the reading by me modeling the first paragraph. I read it out loud and then pointed out the topic, main idea, and supporting details explaining why I knew what each one was. From then on, PJ did the rest by himself. A few times during the reading, he misidentified the main idea, confusing it with a supporting detail or visa versa. In those situations, I asked him if he was sure and pointed him to the section that contained the answer. By the end of the session, he was identifying topics, main ideas, and supporting detail easily.
