For the final session with my adult tutees, we started off with a song by Two Door Cinema Club. I was excited to share the song with them. It gave me a chance to teach them fun vocabulary. It also gave me a chance to expose them to IPA. I gave them all the rhyming pairs in the song and then showed them how certain pairs shared the same vowel. I only introduced 2 sounds. When we listened to the song, I saw a few students make note of what kind of vowel the word. After the exercise, many of the students commented on how much easier listening was when they knew what sounds to anticipate. Next, we reviewed articles, adjectives, and adverbs in preparation for the writing assignment. The writing activity consisted of them writing 5 sentences describing a person they knew. After finishing their assignment, the students shared their work.
