Date/Time: 3.1.16 @3:30-4:30
Location: Books a Million
Topic/Skill: online interactive ESL games involving sentence building, reading and comprehension of a book of her choice (princess stories), English practice worksheets
Feedback provided to tutee: review of knowledge of different types of jobs & matching them with an image, recognizing action verbs and creating sentences with your own action verbs, assistance when stuck unscrambling sentences, comprehension checks when reading and questions to spark conversation
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: It has been difficult to engage Nayun in conversation about certain things, I came prepared to ask her a few questions about her experience with English to see if I can even conduct a needs analysis with a child at this age. She actually seemed suspicious when I was asking her questions and writing her responses down so I explained to her what I was trying to do and she decided she didn't want to participate. I realize asking her family these questions would be much more effective and it's unrealistic to expect a small child to understand why she studies English or how she learns best (although questions like, what do you like to do when we are together? may be informative in some way).
