Topic discussed: Taboo
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: We talked about some of the things which fall in the category of taboo, mostly the consumption of alcohol in Saudi Arabia and in the U.S. I was surprised to find that, while Saudi Arabia does "forbid" the consumption of alcohol, it is still quite possible to find, albeit expensive, and that, similar to any convention, there is never unanimity. We talked about other things that I will just refer to as "taboo", but also some other sensitive topics, such as the treatment and role of women. This gave me some practice in walking this fine line, though my CP was generally of the same western opinion as me, yet another example of an "exception to the rule," and evidence against generalizations.
