Hawk TS #7 PJ

For our seventh session, PJ needed help with his reading assignment from class. It was a Scholastic Reader’s magazine of short articles. While we did the homework, I noticed that often PJ’s comprehension was more or less there. However, when having to return to the text to look for an answer, I noticed that sometimes he might not have fully comprehended what the question was asking. This was more pronounced when questions asked him to pick out the main topic, or what a passage suggested. In contrast, he was always every efficient at answering questions that asked for facts or supporting detail. Finishing the homework took about half of our session. For the other half, we read a short story out of his textbook. I mostly let him read uninterrupted, but intermittently I would stop him and ask him to summarize the reading. He was often good at understanding the events of his readings and the character but I often had to help him construct his ideas so that he could clearly communicate them.
