Tutee: Maria
Date/Time: 2/4 @ 10:00
Location: Lounge
Topic/Skill: intros/diagnostic
Feedback provided to tutee: After the intro/diagnostic questions, I tried to work on her pronunciation and briefly explained how certain sounds are produced, so that she could get a feel of how I would be covering pronunciation. I gave her some suggestions for improving the flow of her speech, such as writing a to-do list in English, or jotting down notes when she found herself thinking in English, or just speaking aloud and hearing her own train of English thought. She seemed to like these ideas and reported in the next session that she thinks they will help her.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned her background with English. We talked mostly about how she wants to use English to become a dentist in the US, and how she mostly wants to work on her speaking skills. Looking back, I think this really helped to appropriately and efficiently shape my lesson goals with her, and in the future, I will take make sure to take into account a tutee's individual goals.
