Tutee: Maria
Date/Time: 2/9 @ 10:00
Location: Lounge
Topic/Skill: more work on t/d, b/v sounds, "ed" ending pronunciation, career-specific vocab
Feedback provided to tutee: in preparation for a mock dentist appointment activity that I was planning for the next session, I suggested that Maria look up some vocabulary that she thought would be relevant for that scenario, since she wants to be a dentist. I explained that we could use the sessions to introduce and productively reinforce the jargon that she would be using in a dentistry job, and we could also deal with any pronunciation errors she had with those words.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I thought that the pronunciation aspect of this lesson went very well, due mostly to a phonetic/mechanical approach, and so I plan to continue this method for the coming sessions, with different phonemes. I also used minimal pairs more effectively this session, but one suggestion would be to have the student come up with some of her own, perhaps words she knows the semantic difference between, but cannot distinguish audibly.
