Emily - TS #5 Child
Date/Time: Saturday, February 13, 2016, 11:00-12:00
Location: Tutee’s home
Topic/Skills: Valley of the Moon: the Diary of María Rosalia de Milagros; Vocabulary and reading comprehension
Teacher Presentation: Before we began our session, I introduced some new vocabulary. All of the vocabulary words were found in the story, so learning their meanings would be beneficial to his reading comprehension.
Feedback provided to tutee: Tutee reads very well, but sometimes does not acknowledge periods at the end of sentences. He stumbled over some words today, which is understandable...there were many Spanish words in this story. Otherwise, he is still reading very well. When asked reading comprehension questions, sometimes he needs to go back and re-read the passage silently in order to find the answer.
He understands most of the vocabulary, and even had previous knowledge of some of the words (eldest, obedience, and treacherous).
Lessons learned: He learned a handful of new vocabulary such as depict, detest, discard, refuge, treacherous, and a few others. Words to work on include “depict” and “discard”, since he did not seem to fully grasp them during this session.
