Jenna- CP#6

Date/Time: 2/18/2016 1:00-1:50pm

Location: Hecht House

Topic Discussed:  This was the final class for the cultural workshop, and we presented poster boards we created with other international students. These posters discussed different cultural norms and why these norms might be practiced.

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I worked with a student from Saudi Arabia and a student from Columbia, and we discussed classroom behaviors, greetings, and gender roles. I learned that in Columbia, the family revolves around the mother and if she dies, the family will disperse. I learned that in Saudi Arabia, schools are completely separated based on gender, and there is only one mixed university in the country. Working alongside these two students taught me not only about their cultures, but also how to be more culturally sensitive.
