Topic Discussed: In the cultural workshop, we got into groups and brainstormed ideas to use for a culture presentation for the next time we meet. Our group decided to focus on gender roles, greetings, and classroom behavior between our three cultures. We will not only focus on the differences but also why we behave the way we do.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I learned that in Columbia, families center around the mother, but also that men take the dominant position in a relationship. If a man and a woman go out for food, the man will always pay. I thought this was interesting in contrast with American culture, since that used to be the norm, but now woman pay a lot more on dates and are almost equal to men in that respect. It is important to not only know and understand these differences, but to understand where they originated from.
