Feedback provided to tutee: Since we met each
other last week, I asked my tutee questions about school. We were
reading a book about English expressions. It was a little bit challenging for
her, because she never saw those expressions before. The tutee looked at the
pictures of the story book and she inferred the literal meaning instead of the
idiomatic expression. So, she was having problems to understand the meaning. So
instead, I used the picture as a reference and try to explain her the idiomatic
expressions. For instance, “once in a blue moon” expression. She saw a blue
moon in the picture. So, I asked to the tutee whether it is common to see a blue
moon or an orange moon. That way, I could tell her that this means something
that happens rarely.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that there
is an ice skating rink in Tallahassee. The tutee told me that she went there
and had fun with her family. She seems more enthusiastic in general. I think
that teaching to kids is easier, because they want to explore and are up to
anything.
