Location: CIES
Topic/Skill: IELTS Reading
Feedback provided to tutee: My tutee wanted to practice more reading for his upcoming IELTS. We did more practice reading samples and answered more questions. This time, however, I wanted him to try and figure out the answers without any guidance. I figured since he won’t have any help when he actually takes the exam, he should practice doing the practice test by himself. He would write down what he thought the answer was and after we got the results, we would go back and find out why he got some of the answers wrong. For the questions he did get wrong, I went back in the text with him and showed him why the correct answer was correct. I told him he should do as many of these practice assessments at home to really improve his skills.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that sometimes a tutor should give more responsibility to the tutee and let them try something, even if they get it wrong. The more they practice, the better they’ll become.
