Feedback provided to tutee: We worked on Hye-in's spelling words for the week. As usual, she could already spell every word on her list flawlessly. I had her write the words in a sentence in order to see if she grasped how to use them. Her sentences were all correct, however they were very simple. I requested that she make more complex sentences and she did. After spelling, I let Hye-in pick out a book that she had been reading and we read it together. Since it was her last tutoring session before heading back to Korea I let her have a little bit more freedom as to what she wanted to do. As always, I periodically asked her comprehension questions as she read the chapter book to check to make sure she was understanding it fully.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: With this being our last tutoring session together, I felt that it was a very positive experience overall. I am glad that I got to know Hye-in by the end of our time together and it makes me very glad that she felt comfortable with me and seemed to enjoy our time together. She even gave me her email address to contact her while she's in Korea! What I will take away from this experience is that it is important to relate to your tutee no matter what age and to be able to see things from their point of view. Since Hye-in is only eight years old I figured that she would want to study using games, which turned out to be very effective.
