Olivia TS#4

Date/Time: 1/20/16 @ 4:30-5:30

Location: Leroy Collins Leon County Library

Topic/Skill: IELTS writing

Feedback provided to tutee: Since my tutee and I practiced reading for IELTS in the previous session, he wanted to practice the writing. It was similar to the reading in that he had to read about something, but there was a prompt at the end instead of comprehension questions. We read through together, and I helped him with words he didn’t know again. For the purpose of time, I had him write down the main points of what he would write instead of full sentences. I gave him some time to write what he would create an essay from, and then we discussed it. This is a strategy I still use when writing essays, and I told him it’s good to write down main points first so your ideas can be organized and you can go back to them when writing an essay.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned how tough this test can be and how important it is to do well on. My tutee was stressed about taking the test, but I told him to just relax and to not put too much pressure on himself. I also told him to practice speed writing so that his nerves wouldn’t have a negative impact on his writing skills.
